The Mansfield University Field Hockey Legacy Club
In 1915, Irene Aubrey introduced the sport of Field Hockey to Mansfield University; the first of many groundbreaking moments for this program. During the 1980’s MUFH transitioned from the AIAW to an NCAA recognized sport. 1999-2002 was our first ever four-time All-PSAC & All-American athlete Gretchen (Reschke) Volschke. In 2001 our program won the ECAC tournament and finished with a record 13 wins that season. 2006 brought the first PSAC playoff berth in program history, followed by appearances in 2010, 2019, 2023, and 2024.
In 2009, we had the first pair of 1st Team All-Americans in Courtney (Grunza) Prokopchuk ’10 & Brittany (Kostishion) Hansrote ’09. A new turf field was installed in 2013 which transitioned MUFH from Spaulding to Van Norman field. By 2015 we celebrated our centennial anniversary and welcomed around 100 MUFH alumnae back home to Mansfield to celebrate. That same year we welcomed back our first ever alumna Brittany (Kostishion) Hansrote ’09 to lead MUFH across the centennial threshold and into present day. MUFH has been nationally ranked the past three consecutive seasons, repeating playoff appearances consecutively for the first time in program history. 2023 the team went its farthest in post-season by hosting the first home playoff game in program history and winning in OT to send them to the PSAC Championship tournament. 2024 brought the program its first ever major PSAC player award in Jenna Duke ’28 being named the PSAC Freshman of the Year.

It has been an incredible honor to be the first-ever alumna to lead the Mountaineer Field Hockey program. As I celebrate my tenth year as Head Coach at Mansfield, I am filled with pride for all that MUFH has accomplished over the past decade. Our program is built on the pillars of Family, Legacy, and Tradition, and I remain committed to honoring the rich history of MUFH and the traditions upheld by those who came before me.
We continue to achieve success both in the classroom and on the field, earning respect within the community, the PSAC, and NCAA Division II. Here at Mansfield, we embody determination, grit, passion, loyalty, and pride—qualities that define who we are and how we persevere no matter the circumstance. Your contribution to MUFH during your time here was remarkable. You helped shape and maintain everything this program stands for, and for that, we are forever grateful. Your name and legacy are deeply woven into the fabric of MUFH.
